Won’t JAYA be slow on a dial-up?
It would if we had done it “wrong.” But we did it right.
Three important things that determine speed are the server, the size of the files being sent, and the way the application was programmed.
We have a dedicated server, which means no one but JAYA customers are using it. And, of course, we have a dedicated database server which is not shared with anyone but JAYA users. If it slows down, we can always put into service another server.
The main thing we did for dial-up customers is that we have ZERO graphics in the program. We didn’t even use graphic buttons…. everything is plain, old HTML. Even if we had used only a few small graphics, say 10K total. Multiply that by thousands of users and the numbers add up.
The smaller the data packets sent to you the faster they arrive… and the faster that the page renders on your browser.
So, while JAYA123 might not be the most beautiful application, it is lean, mean and fast… even on dial-up (assuming you have a clean phone line and good modem.)
Finally, we wrote the program using a language designed for this purpose (PHP, if that means anything to you.) And our database (MySQL) is also one of the fastest around. And we run the Apache web service. The whole server (ie. hardware) runs on the FreeBSD operating system (a flavor of Unix) which is solid and reliable and “industrial strength”.
So all together, we used the right tools for this job. If you have a friend who knows this technology, show them the above and ask them about it. They will tell you that we know what we are doing… we have to… OUR business runs on JAYA123 too!!!
